This fast-paced course is designed to introduce students to American Sign Language (ASL) and guide them into early intermediate communication skills. Students will begin with foundational vocabulary, basic grammar, and simple everyday conversations, then progress into more developed communication with expanded vocabulary and longer interactions. Topics include introductions, fingerspelling, numbers, questions, family, daily routines, locations, and personal experiences. Students will build skills in forming clear thoughts, asking follow-up questions, and maintaining smoother conversations. The course also introduces more advanced grammar, facial expressions, and classifiers to describe people, objects, and actions more clearly. Emphasis is placed on interactive learning through partner practice, group conversations, and real-world communication activities to build confidence. Students will also gain insight into Deaf culture and communication norms throughout the course.
