Introduction to Wood Turning

This course provides a thorough introduction to the lathe, its parts and lathe safety. You will learn to identify various turning tools, discover how to use and properly sharpen them, get hands-on experience using the spindle roughing gouge, spindle gouge, parting tool and bowl gouge. You will use these techniques to make pens, Bottle stoppers, a weed pot or bud vase, tea light, small bowl and other projects as time permits. Basic woodworking knowledge is required but lathe experience is not necessary. While it is encouraged to bring your own, some tools, facemasks and wood bottle stoppers, a weed pot or bud vase, tea light, small bowl and other projects as time permits. Instruction is supplemented with volunteers from the Central Arkansas Woodturning club. Class will break for lunch each day.
